Set Goals To Stretch You

Set Goals To Stretch You

As soon as you commit to a big dream and really go after it, your subconscious creative mind will come up with big ideas to make it happen. You’ll start attracting the people, resources, and opportunities you need into your life to make your dreams come true. Big dreams not only inspire you, they compel others to want to play big too.

So do not be afraid of thinking big; I like the saying ‘shoot for the moon, if you miss you will land in the stars’. I have had people set goals to increase their income by 25% and be happy when they achieve it, but then I ask them; “What if you had set a goal to double your income? Could you have achieved it? If you had only achieved it half way you would have realised a 50% growth in income.” Often by thinking big you can achieve far more than by sticking to what you can reasonably expect.

Another value in giving yourself permission to go after the big dreams is that big dreams require you to grow in order to achieve them. In fact, in the long run, that is the greatest benefit you will receive from pursuing your dreams. Nobody ever achieved great things by thinking small, and most people that enjoy what others describe as a wonderful life, are those that do not put limits on their future. So dare to dream big dreams and stretch yourself to achieve them. If you do not step outside your comfort zone, you can never enjoy a truly different life. If you are going to get new results, you must do things you have never done before, and doing anything new will always feel uncomfortable in the beginning, but as you practice something new, in time it becomes normal – this is when your life changes and you grow.

When I started my business, I had never had to do any business to business sales. I had no customers and no idea whether I would be successful or not, but I had persuaded my father-in-law to support me in the venture and he agreed to run the finances of the business as my partner. So I started with an old second hand desk, a telephone and a lot of passion to succeed. I picked up a copy of the Yellow Pages and started to call companies I thought could benefit from my services.

I was completely outside my comfort zone, but I was the only person I had, so that was what I had to do if I was to succeed. That willingness to step outside my comfort zone was what allowed me to become successful and build my business.
